Academics

Our main goal in the Elementary School at the International School of Curaçao is to inspire the joy of learning in our students by providing a well-balanced, child-centered environment that supports and challenges child development. We encourage children to be active participants in their own learning and to continually question what they are learning and how it connects to their own experiences.

Our school is a center of analysis, creativity and joyful learning, with students from more than 20 countries coming together to learn, to dream and to grow.

ISC offers small class sizes and personalized attention, providing each child with the tools required to reach their academic potential and be happy, thoughtful members of our learning community.

Academic areas of Literacy, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics blend with co-curricular areas of Music, Art, Physical Education, Computer, Library, Spanish and Dutch to create a rich experience with opportunities for all students to explore new ideas.

The staff at ISC  share a common connection: We care about each of the students we have the privilege to teach, and it is this connection that drives us to do everything that we can to ensure that each child obtains a love of learning that will contribute to his or her later successes.

On behalf of the ISC’s Middle and High School faculty and staff, I extend a heartfelt welcome to you as you embark on a journey to explore our educational community through our website.

ISC’s secondary school is more than just a place of learning; it is a dynamic environment where students in grades 6-12 thrive. Our intimate community, comprising nearly 150 students, is fostered by dedicated professionals who bring our school’s mission and vision to life in their daily teaching practices. We are steadfast in our commitment to providing an international education that molds global citizens.

In grades 6-10, ISC proudly implements the Middle Years Program (MYP), a transformative curriculum that encourages students to make connections between their studies and the real world. This program, which precedes the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) in grades 11th and 12th, sets the foundation for academic excellence and holistic development.

As the Principal, my passion lies in empowering students to succeed. I utilize every available tool to inspire collaboration among staff, students, and the community, cultivating an environment that fosters both achievement and well-being.

ISC takes pride in offering the IBDP, a rigorous and challenging program in grades 11th and 12th. This program equips our students for higher education in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and beyond.

Our legacy of excellence extends beyond academics to a rich tapestry of extracurricular activities. From varsity sports, including soccer, basketball, and volleyball, to community service projects that instill a deep commitment to service, ISC students are encouraged to develop both academically and as individuals.

For those with artistic inclinations, our school offers participation in the band and music programs, as well as the arts. Students interested in global issues, conflict resolution, debate, and public speaking can join the Global Issues Network (GIN) and Model United Nations (MUN).

ISC High School provides a high-quality English-medium education using both United States and international standards. Our teachers are not only well-qualified but also fully dedicated to fostering a fully inclusive and multicultural environment.

Aligned with the International Baccalaureate ethos, our curriculum emphasizes the IB Learner Profile—a set of attributes that develop students into inquisitive, knowledgeable, and compassionate individuals.

We invite you to explore our website and, even better, to visit our school. I am always available to meet with you and discuss any questions or interests you may have. Please feel free to contact me directly at francou@isc.cw.

Looking forward to the opportunity of welcoming you in person to the ISC family.

IB Curriculum

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is a non-profit educational foundation, motivated by its mission, focused on the student.

All IB programs help develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. Founded in 1968, the IB currently work with 3,475 schools in 144 countries to develop and offer challenging programs to over 1,058,000 students aged 3 to 19 years.

The IB offers three main programs, the Primary Years Program (PYP), the Middle Years Program (MYP) and the Diploma Program. At ISC, we currently offer the MYP and DP Programs. At the centre of all programs is the Learner profile.

What is so special about IB programmes?

  • IB programmes are recognized around the world and ensure an increased adaptability and mobility for IB students.
  • The curriculum and pedagogy of IB programs focus on international perspectives of learning and teaching, while insisting that students fully explore their home culture and language.
  • IB World Schools must undergo an exhaustive authorization process in order to offer one or more of the programs, which includes a study of the school’s resources and commitment to the IB mission and philosophy.
  • IB teachers participate in a wide variety of professional development opportunities to constantly update their knowledge and share their expertise with colleagues around the world.
  • Many students graduating from the Diploma Program find that it enhances their opportunities at tertiary institutions. The IB works closely with universities around the world to gain recognition for IB programs.
  • The core components of IB programs encourage students to participate in creative and service-oriented activities, while at the same time emphasizing the importance of reflection on a personal and academic level.
