COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM

The International School of Curacao aims to provide students with a means to give something back to their community. With this aim in mind the school is committed to community service and offers its students opportunities to participate in community service projects throughout the school year.

Community service teaches students the value of humanity and giving to others less fortunate than themselves. We teach our students that they can make a difference. Involvement in our community service program raises self-esteem, promotes cooperation and teaches citizenship. Community service fosters a sense of pride and purpose in school, providing real life experiences and an alternative learning style for children.

Middle School Community Service

In grades 6, 7 and 8 students strive to log in 100 hours of community service within the three years. School organizes a variety of opportunities for students to participate in. All Middle School students also participate in our community service day at the end of the school year.

Grades 9 & 10 Community Service

Students in 9th and 10th grade are required to complete 30 hours of community service in each of their first two years of high school. To prepare students for the required IB demands for full Diploma students and Certificate students in grades 11 and 12 – the CAS system is followed. Students will need to complete 10 hours in each category of CAS: Creativity, Action, and Service per year.

Grades 11 & 12 – CAS program (Creativity, Activity, Service)

In grades 11 and 12 students taking the ISC Certificate need to do a minimum of 100 hours of community service. IB diploma students need to complete a project in Grade 12. This project is beneficial for the community as well as a learning opportunity for the student.  The IB CAS system is followed. Students need to complete service hours within the three categories of CAS: Creativity, Activity, and Service.
